Rent Control
Re "Private properties' fate goes to voters" (Jan. 20):

A key point was missed regarding an initiative headed for the ballot this June. Eighty percent of the funding for this measure is from apartment-building owners and mobile-home-park owners. They want to fool voters into voting for hidden provisions in the measure that would abolish rent control and end crucial tenant protections.

If these wealthy landlords get their way, hundreds of thousands of retired seniors on fixed incomes, widows, single mothers, veterans and other hardworking people in Los Angeles and around the state, who rely on rent control to survive, could lose their homes with many ending up on the street. Voters must vote to save rent control by rejecting the landlords' scheme.
